Snaring and Trapping Season

Snaring and Trapping Season

Meet the very lucky Trigger!

Trigger 1

Trigger presented to us to evaluate wounds he sustained while being missing for several days. During a snowstorm, Trigger ran off chasing a small animal in the woods. He returned home two days later, and based on his injuries, it appears he was trapped in a snare but managed to struggle free. Trigger sustained a cut nearly the entire circumference of his neck which quickly became infected. We treated the wound but based on the location he ultimately needed to have surgery to heal his wound.

Trigger is a lucky dog who was able to free himself, but most animals captured in snares do not survive. Remember that it is still snaring and trapping season, which runs from October 1 to February 29.
