Our 24 hour Intensive Care Unit is fully prepared and staffed to manage the most complex critically ill patients. Our hospital is the only New Brunswick veterinary hospital recognized by the International Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.
In the ICU we can monitor patients for many medical conditions, including:
- Immune-mediated Diseases
- Heart Failure
- Cardiac Arrhythmias
- Kidney and Liver Failure
- Gastrointestinal Diseases
- Neurological Diseases
- Respiratory Diseases
- Post-operative surgical management
We stock the ‘antidotes’ of many toxicities including anti-coagulant rodenticides, anti-depressants, narcotic and sedative overdoses, vitamin D toxicity, ethylene glycol (antifreeze), many pesticides, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory overdoses, and Tylenol toxicity.
Our ICU is equipped with cage-side oxygen therapy, ECG, blood pressure monitoring, oxygenation monitoring, and warming equipment. We have point of care blood testing (electrolytes, blood gas, glucose, etc), as well as diagnostics (portable ultrasound).
Our skilled veterinarians are comfortable with emergency procedures, including but not limited to, chest tube placement, thoracocentesis, pericardiocentesis, fracture stabilization, endoscopic foreign body retrieval, jugular catheter placement, urinary catheterization, blood transfusions, and emergency surgery.
Emergency services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are open nights, weekends and holidays and your pet is never unattended in our facility.
